I went to WNYC today to tape an interview with Bob Garfield on vlogging for On The Media and they told me the big news:
This week's On The Media will be the first NPR show - maybe the first major radio show anywhere - that will be podcast.

"First" is one of those dangerous words. The BBC had a very successful experiment recently releasing Melvyn Bragg's "In Our Time" radio programme as MP3 - saw thousands of downloads.
"Major" might be the key thing here, as "In Our Time" is so highbrow as to be off most peoples' scales.
